Claudia Esperanza - 2016

Hello! My name is Claudia Esperanza and I was born in Canada. My parents are from Guatemala and El Salvador. I am currently enrolled in my fourth year of the Bachelor of Science of Nursing at Western University in London, ON. In June 2018, I completed a Summer Surgery School Program that trained nursing students to become Operating Room nurses. I was trained about sterile principles and how to work as a team with other nurses and surgeons. Now, I am completing the accelerated fourth year program, where I began my fourth year of nursing in May 2019 and finish in December 2019.

My graduation date from Western University is June 2020. I was very fortunate to receive the first prize of the JELMS scholarship in 2016. The JELMS scholarship gave me the financial and emotional support to chance my dreams of becoming a nurse. As a young Hispanic student, I am proud to represent my heritage and prepared to improve the quality of life for many people in Canada and hopefully in other countries such as, Guatemala and El Salvador. I hope to graduate from my nursing program and work as an oncology nurse at Victoria Hospital in London, ON. I plan to contribute to the cancer community and bring peace and happiness to my future patients
